View Full Version : If the Redwall series became movies

Grath

Dumb title I know but I could not think of another way to put it.

I'm just wondering if the Redwall series became movies who do you think would be cast to play a character for example:

Matthais: Elijah Wood

Martin: Orlando Bloom

So who do you think?

LordTBT
April 29th, 2004, 06:02 PM
if they made redwall into a movie with humans, i wouldnt see it. Itll never happen, so I have no fears.

Grath
April 29th, 2004, 06:04 PM
whops I meant who would be the voices of the characters.

Silly me:lol:

What do you think about dreamworks putting together a thing like that? You know, like they animated "Shrek". I thought there animation of that movie was good.

April 29th, 2004, 06:31 PM
It would be nice to see Dreamworks do a Redwall movie but it would most-likely be more like Elton John's Road to El Dorado. Which wouldn't be too bad, that was a good movie. Now as for the casting Orlando Bloom and Elijah Wood as the voices of Martin the Warrior and Matthias I am sorry to say that's a pretty slim chance, although if they did one wonders who'd they'd get to play Basil Stag Hare and Cluny the Scourge.

You might want to check out this thread Redwall On the Big Screen (http://forums.longpatrolclub.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=919)
They're already working on making some sort of Redwall movie. It probably won't be out for several years, though.

BJ has hinted at a movie in the making.

I made an ideal cast list a while ago...lets see if I can find it... A-ha! (I also included what you may know the actors from). I burrowed quite a few actors from my "Ivan" dream cast...*groan* but its a great list, (I think so anyway)

-Tim Roth (Planet of the Apes)-Cluny
-John Cleese (Monty Python)- Basil Stag Hare
-Michael Gambon (Prisoner of Azkaban/Gosford Park)- Abbot Mortimer
-Jonathan Pryce (Pirates of the Caribean)- Abbot Alf
-James Earl Jones (Star Wars)- Asmodeus
-Alan Cumming (X2)- Kilconey
-Tony Jay (Hunchback of Notre Dame)- Shadow
-Rob Paulson (Lots of stuff)-Cheesethief
-Michael Palin (Monty Python) -Redtooth
-Jim Cummings (Lots of stuff)- Log-a-Log
-Anybody but Jake Lloyd or Haley Joel Osment- Matthias (get some British kid)
-Girl Who Plays Hermoine (Harry Potter, unless she's too old now)- Cornflower
-Gina Gershon (Driven)- Sela
-Andrew Rosdail (nothing yet)- Ragear/Chickenhound (Couldn't think of anyone else to play the latter)
-Kathy Bates (About Schmidt)- Constance
-???- Jess
-John Hurt (Hellboy)- Methulessuh
-Pierce Brosnan (James Bond)- The Beaver

Other books:

-David Thewlis (Dragonheart)- Slagar the Cruel
-Alan Rickman (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves)- Ulbaz Madeyes
-Robbie Coletrain (Harry Potter)- Orlando the Axe
-Christian Bale (Reign of Fire)- Martin the Warrior
-Gerard Butler (Timeline)- Gonff
-Brian Blessed (Phantom Menace)- Clogg
-Geoffry Rush (Pirates of the Caribean)- Badrang
-Guy Pierce (Count of Monte Cristo)- Ferrahango
-David Warner (Don't know what you'd guys know him from)- Nadaz
-Michael Wincott (Treasure Planet)- Bane
-Cate Blanchett (LOTR)- Tsarmina

I'll stop now before I get carried away. XD. This may be the best casting ever! I especially like how I cast Pierce Brosnan.

cool ideas. i would suggest keira knightley to be jess squirrel.

May 1st, 2004, 07:26 AM
-Girl Who Plays Hermoine (Harry Potter, unless she's too old now)- Cornflower

I thought Emma Watson (thats her name) would make a good Cornflower as well (however I think she would be even better as Amy if Castaways of the Flying Dutchman was made into a film), she is deffinatly not to old.

i see what you mean...
rowan atkinson would be good comedy value as the mouse (vole?) cluny's army captured to get them into redwall.

Grath

Hey Lord Servone those are some nice ideas but did the beaver ever talk in Redwall, I don't remember him ever talking. Hmmm I guess I need to reread it.

Also Sean Connery would make a cool badger lord and Angela Lasbury would be a good character like abbess Germaine or the one who took over after her you know the one in Outcast of Redwall.

Judi Dench as Bella or the older Cregga would be good, in my opinion. The problem is that most good young actors haven't reached their peaks yet, or haven't yet received big parts, being shouldered out by the pretty boys and matchstick women of Hollywood blockbusters, with some notable exceptions, so I find it hard to name any that would be good for younger parts.

Matthais: Elijah Wood

Definatly:) :) :)

Galadriel as Tsarmina? No way! She's not mean enough. Her voice is too smooth. No.

Lord Servone
May 6th, 2004, 09:30 PM
Actually, I had a better idea for her the other day... Miranda Richardson (Sleepy Hollow) would probably make a better Tsarmina...though I still think my original choice was good too.

Slagar the Cruel
May 6th, 2004, 09:36 PM
Well, Cate Blanchett does have a pretty impressive voice range. Compare her performance in "Fellowship of the Ring" to her work in "Bandits"... it's a night and day difference. I don't think either were her normal speaking voices, either. Still, nothing I've seen (heard, rather) of her has made me feel that she'd be right for the part.

Cheesethief
May 7th, 2004, 01:14 PM
the only time cate blanchett is evil is in the fellowship, at the mirror-bowl thing. for a better tsarmina, choose someone who specialises in evil parts. im trying to think who...

Nora the Rover
May 7th, 2004, 04:46 PM
Watch 'The Shipping News'. Cate Blanchett can play evil as well as she can play good. In my opinion, I think she'd do a good job, but I've always imagined Tsarmina to have a slightly higher, grating voice.

May 8th, 2004, 04:15 AM
i agree with you on the latter point.
mind you, miranda richardson would be ok...

Lord Servone
May 13th, 2004, 01:06 AM
I changed my mind about Gerad Butler playing Gonff...I think Robbie Williams (the singer) would be a better one. Gerard Butler would probably be a better villain... a lot of people probably don't even know who I'm talking about :P... Gonff DID sing, didn't he? I can't remember....
Boar the Fighter can be voiced by Liam Neeson...and Chibb by Eddie Izzard..

Eddie Izzard mainly does stand-up, but he was in movies such as "Shadow of the Vampire", "The Avengers" (though he only had one line), and "Velvet Goldmine" among a few others. He was also the Python imposter on the Monty Python 30th Anniversary show...

Btw, I'm doing a thing on fanfiction.net where I'm writing theatrical trailers to the Redwall books and casting actors and ff.net authors to the parts. Leave a review there if you have any ideas!!! :D

http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=1547963&chapter=1

here are some actors/actresses that I think would be great and why~

Johnny Depp as Finbarr Galedeep: Just look at his performence as Jack Sparrow, and you'll see why he'd be great at the rough, brave, sea otter

Viggo Mortensen as Martin the Warrior: Not really in the book (mtw) though. Martin's too young durring that book. He'd be best at the voiceovers in later books.

Kierra Knightly as Song: I based this solely off her performence as Elizabeth (potc) and she'd be perfect at being a character who has to be gentle and ladylike at some times, and a brave fighter at others.

Angela Lansbury as Bella: Out of all the badger mothers, Bella is the most gentle and motherly. (I really can't picture her as a convincing Constance) :)

Yeah...so i'll add more later

I think a great person to play Basil Stag Hare (although it would never happen) would be John Cleese! Ya have to have a good actor for the best hare in the entire series!

little britain (best comedy ever)

Can't say I agree. Little Britain is quite good, but I think we're forgetting Fawlty Towers, The Vicar of Dibley, Only Fools and Horses, Dad's Army, Blackadder... the list goes on...

Yeah, well, best not get off topic.

blackadder is good, true, but although the rest you mentioned are all british classics aleisou, they are slightly dated. except the vicar of dibley. fawlty towers is ok.
what about father ted?
nay, in my opinion, little britain is up there with the best of 'em.

Aleisou Swiftpounce
November 4th, 2004, 03:43 PM
Father Ted is cool too... and Black Books. Now look what you've done, I'm listing comedies again!
Well, whatever. I know they're kinda dated - that's what I meant; there has been better comedies in the past.
Still, Little Britain is quite good. Yeah but no but yeah but no!

Anyway, on topic again... how about Christopher Lee as Slagar? Although Tim Curry did a good job on him in the animated series.

Felldoh
November 4th, 2004, 04:21 PM
I think they should keep Tim Curry as Slagar, I thought he was one of the best actors in the series. Though I did expect him to burst out and start singing "Sweet Transvestite" at any moment. :D

If there ever was a Redwall movie... they'd have to fit in Colin Salmon. He's just so... cool. Who would he play? I dunno... maybe Felldoh...

If it was live action, I start wondering who the bad guys would be? Cluny" Jack Palance or that pirate guy that stars with JohhnyDepp in the first pirates of carribean movie How about Jeremy Irons as someone. Tim curry was a great slagar so he should play him again. Kurda :Angelica Jolie or Paris Hilton.

Eh, Dreamworks is awesome, but I think that's a bit too toony, at least for what I'd like to see Redwall as.

The way I picture a Redwall movie is basically...take Chronicles of Narnia....take out the humans and leave all the digitally animated creatures....make those creatures Redwall characters, and then get Brian Jaques (however spell his name ;P) to write the story or at least have SOME big part in the movie, then get some good voice actors....then bam, instant classic.

If that happend, I would seriously LOVE it....

here's who we need:
-cleese as basil
-micheal palin
-eddy izzard
-johnny depp
-tim curry(there is only one person capable of playing slagar.)
-maggie whatsherface, you know, mogonagle(sp) (constace)
-alan rickman
-jeremy irons
-andy circus(we'll find something for him)
-guy that played black adder (can't remember his name)
-hugo weaving
-ian mckelin(sp)
of course, the cast would be lotr meets python, but who wouldn't love that? something for everybody!

Yes, it is. If a thread hasn't had a new post in the last six months it is better to create a new thread rather than revive the old one.
