Can't remember if this has come up, but the big news is that in HBP a "major character" is to be killed. Many have speculated Dumbledore. I say yeah right.
Once again, I believe that Sirius is really completely dead(he aint comin back).
I'm going to have to think about who might die.

Sirius is dead; we're going to find out why he died in HBP, according to JK. For facts about the book, go to mugglenet.com

I was reading the paper yesterday, and there was a story about these two men who stole copies of the book. Here's the link: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2005/06/04/npotter04.xml&sSheet=/portal/2005/06/04/ixportal.html

I hope it's Ron. *crosses fingers* :slagar
But really, it won't be Dumbledore, the thought of that is just ridiculous. I think it might be Snape, after all, he's the undercover guy...
And I'm sure Sirius will come back, I don't want him to because that would be really stupid, but I just have a suspicion that Rowling will be dumb and bring him back in a really stupid way. Of course I could be wrong and I hope I am, I just don't think I am....

I'm perfectly content to sit and wait until I can get my hands on the book and find out for myself. I'm not the type to waste time making speculations that won't achieve anything in the end. As far as I'm concerned, everyone is an equal possibility.

Except for Harry of course. :D

For all I know he could die and come back to life, or in the next book it involves him in the "other world." Anything could happen. None of the previous books have concrete evidence suggesting who it is, so I'm not going to try to figure it out.

Well of course. I go to that site, been going there for a while.
At any rate, sorry Chelki, Sirius is bye-bye.

And that fact still brings tears to my eyes. As much as I would like to see my favorite character return, it's not going to happen.
I'm thinking along the lines of it being Hagrid. But really, I have no idea.

I don't think a major character is going to die. Remember what happened with book 4? JK will probably kill some random person like like the black kid or the janitor or maybe the ghost proffesor.

Bah. I bet youre one of those same people who Book 3 is their favorite book. After Book 5, Book 3 is completely irrelevant in the series, except for the gain of the Map. That's it.

Random comment, but Dumbledore's brother is the Half-Blood Prince. It's a certainty, I'm telling you. Bet a squillion quid.
As for who's going to die: Rollo's right for once, it'll be someone rubbish.

Was Dumbledore's brother in any previous book? I don't remember any mention of him.....I did read the books last year sometime, so it's quite possible I've forgotten.

He was not an actual character, but a reference was made to him.

Care to give some biographical info on this guy?

Aberforth Dumbledore... prosecuted for practicing inappropriate charms on a goat. I think he was also a member of the orignal Order.
That's just about all we know, really. :p

From the Harry Potter lexicon, which is an encyclopedia of all things Potter-
Aberforth Dumbledore-Probably the most mysterious of the members of the Order of the Phoenix is Aberforth Dumbledore. He is the brother of Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts. Aberforth was a member of the Order in the 1970s and may be a member still, although he has never been to 12 Grimmauld Place that Harry and the others have known. He appears in the old photograph of the Order that Moody showed around at the party on August 31, Y15. Moody said he was a strange bloke (OP9).
Albus Dumbledore once used Aberforth as an example of someone who ignored public ridicule. Apparently, Aberforth had been prosecuted for practicing "inappropriate charms on a goat," (GF24) but hadn't let subsequent comments in the Daily Prophet faze him. However, Albus then said that he wasn't entirely sure that Aberforth could read, so it might not have been bravery at all.
Aberforth is the barkeep at the Hog's Head Inn in Hogsmeade. There are a number of clues which led fans to guess this before Rowling confirmed it in her interview at the Edinburgh Book Festival.
The following quotes from OP were collected by Sarah Stephens; she contributed much of the commentary as well.
*
"The Hog's Head bar comprised one small, dingy and very dirty room that smelled strongly of something that might have been goats." (OP16)
o
We all know (GF24) there's a connection between Aberforth and goats...
*
"The barman sidled towards them out of a backroom. He was a grumpy-looking old man with a great deal of long grey hair and a beard. He was tall and thin and looked vaguely familiar to Harry." (OP16)
o
JK doesn't throw away words like familiar, and his description is similiar to Dumbledore's.
o
Also, Harry at that point had seen Aberforth's picture (when Moody showed him the "team photograph" of the 1970s Order of the Phoenix). Harry's good at recognizing people from quick flashes like that - witness his recognition of Phineas Nigellus' voice in "The Eye of the Snake". - MLW
*
"The barman's eyes travelled over Harry, resting for a fraction of a second on his scar." (OP16)
o
Why at this point in the series is this worth writing unless it is truly of note?
*
"'Oh no,' said Dumbledore, with a grim smile, 'I am not leaving to go into hiding. Fudge will soon wish he'd never dislodged me from Hogwarts, I promise you.'" (OP27)
o
Easily could hide in plain view at the Hog's Head with his brother (or even standing in for him)
*
"'Well... no!' sobbed Hermione. 'We've tried the Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley and the Three Broomsticks and even the Hog's Head..."
"Idiot girl -- Dumbledore won't be sitting in a pub when the whole Ministry's looking for him!'" (OP32)
o
So of course, knowing Dumbledore, he would be.
*
"'I did,' said Dumbledore. 'On a cold, wet night sixteen years ago, in a room above the bar at the Hog's Head inn.'" (OP37)
o
So Albus has spent time there.
*
"The Hog's Head inn, which Sybill chose for its cheapness, has long attracted, shall we say, a more interesting clientele than the Three Broomsticks. As you and your friends found out to your cost, and I to mine that night, it is a place where it is never safe to assume you are not being overheard. Of course ... worth overhearing. My -- our -- one stroke of good fortune was that the eavesdropper was detected only a short way into the prophecy and thrown from the building." (OP37)
o
Who detected the eavesdropper and threw him out? With such a clientele, why would the ownership be so upset over this one especially?
Aberforth's role in the Order has not yet been revealed; perhaps there is a clue in this incident. The clientele of the Hog's Head is definitely dodgy -- a good reason for the Order to keep an eye on the place. Doing so may be Aberforth's work for the Order.

Sorry, but I'm going to have to say much of "Sarah Stephens' " logic is completely ludicrous and crackpot.

I think it'll be McGonaglakjgklfa (can't be bothered to spell her name), I just thought of her and she'd be the perfect unexpected one to die. No facts to back that up of course.
