Here. This way no one can complain that it's somewhere else. I'll just post all political related links here. And so can Josiah, har har.

I'll begin.

Yesterday Barbara Boxer resorted to ad hominems, saying Condi Rice is not qualified to work in government because she is a single, childless woman. Which sickens me.

First it sickens me because it's a personal attack. Second, I thought liberals were all about single, childless women. Isn't that being independent on not relying on a man to do things for you and accomplishing your own goals and rocking out to "Miss Independent" by Christina and "Indepedent Woman" by Destiny's Child?

Or is it only good to be single and childless if you're a young woman?

"Miss Independent" by ChristinaIt's by Kelly Clarkson, TBT.;) And it's about a girl who was independent, but fell in love.

Liberals are confusing. I don't even try to understand them.

Ah, I'm embarrassed. I was thinking of "Miss Independent" by Kelly Clarkson and "Fighter" by Christina Aguilera and my brain combined them.

Well first of all this article was clearly written in a completely partisan voice; as usual, the New York Post doesn't even attempt to disguise its political affiliations or half-heartedly try to throw up a guise of professional neutrality. Second, yes, personal attacks are always wrong, but your wording and the articles wording take the comment out of context. Boxer is not saying "all single childless women are unqualified to be government employees," she is saying that both Rice and herself are unable to appreciate the true devastating effects of the Iraq War because of their small immediate families. This quote has been warped and taken out of context. No it was not an appropriate thing to say, but it certainly doesn't mean "Condi Rice is not qualified to work in government because she is a single, childless woman."

Josiah, it's an editorial, not a news report ;) And if anything, the paper as a whole would be liberal. It's New York City. However, even liberal papers do print editorials that are not of their own opinion.

Exact quote:

"You're (Condi) not going to pay a particular price, as I understand it, with an immediate family."

It's not that the quote was inappropriate Josiah, it's flat out wrong. I have no immediate family (or children) fighting in the military, does that mean I'm incapable of comprehending what this war means?

I don't know if you've ever seen a copy of the New York Post, but as someone who has to see that garbage every time he visits his grandparents, I can assure you that it is a Fox News tabloid poorly disguised as a newspaper. So yes, it is very conservative.

So you think that you feel the impacts of the war on the same level as someone whose son had their head blown off by an IED? I don't know anyone currently fighting in Iraq, and I would never assume that I feel the war on same level as the family of a young man or woman who returned in a box.

I agree whole heartedly Josiah.

Speaking about politics. Does anyone here enjoy Anderson Cooper 360?

I refuse to believe you have ever watched a Fox News news (non-commentary) program. Like The Fox Report with Shepard Smith. Watch that, and tell me what exactly is conservative about the broadcast, please.

That is not what I asked, or said. The question was not whether or not I would feel the effects of the war in the same way as a soldier's family, but if I was capable at all of feeling them. Obviously you recognize that we both are. Which means you recognize that Boxer was wrong.

I'm not going to argue about the level of conservativism in Fox News, if you choose not to see it, fine, agree to disagree.

Look at your supporting quote
"You're (Condi) not going to pay a particular price, as I understand it, with an immediate family."
Where, pray tell, does that quote say or remotely suggest that Rice is not at all capable of feeling the effects of Iraq? No where.

I never asked you to argue about it. I was curious if you had ever viewed "The Fox Report with Shepard Smith". Have you?

Um. The whole "You're not going to pay a particular price" bit.

Well is she? Is anyone who doesn't have friends or family in Iraq going to pay anything beyond a literal price in tax dollars?

p.s. Why do I have a feeling that in 2 years this will be 74 pages of us arguing?

LordTBT
January 15th, 2007, 02:43 PM
Nope.

Ok. Well humor me, and watch it one night this week. You probably watch news anyway, humor me and watch this program. If you're concerned about being labeled a blasphemer or heathen by the family hide in a room and watch it.

She's the Secretary of the State. How can you say she has no "friends" in Iraq?

I don't watch tv news, actually. Unless you count the Daily Show. But fine, I'll TiVo it.

Do you really think she has created bonds of friendship with grunts? Sure she's probably shaken a few hands here and there, but I would bet the only people she actually knows are high ranking generals and strategists, or, in other words, people who probably aren't going to die. Besides, that doesn't really answer my question; assuming that she doesn't have any friends in Iraq, which as I've said, I highly doubt, is she or anyone going to pay a real price?

Is that a 'yes' to my question? You can say with complete honesty that you think Condi Rice has a friend without stars on his collar? Or her collar.

Hey, stupid. You voted for the war. Let's not forget that your husband bombed the country. You are a liar.

Hey, stupid. You voted for the war.
True, that was dumb of her to say. But think about it like this; a girl scout comes to your door and offers you cookies, you buy some and are happy, but if she hadn't have asked you would you have gone out yourself to try and buy some?
Let's not forget that your husband bombed the country.
I'm sorry, how is that relevant?

True, that was dumb of her to say.

Not only that, it goes against her actions. She voted for the war. She openly vocalized support for the war. Her husband bombed Iraq and his administration aided in gaining the intelligence for it. You think Hillary was just kept in the dark  She's a liar.
