Thought I'd point out that Penguin & Amazon are having a competition from today until November 5th.

First 5,000 people to submit an unpublished English-language novel to Penguin will have a chance to secure a publishing contract and a $25,000 advance, along with a full HP media suite worth nearly $7,000.

Here's your chance!

All I can say is drat. I wrote a book but I'm still in the middle of editing it. Won't be finished by October 1, or five weeks after for that matter. At least I don't think so. Would have been a great opportunity. Wonder if they'd take a first draft? (I think they're looking for fully written, complete novels. Mine's done, but parts need some work.)

Thanks for pointing this out.

I'm not sure if I'll have enough time to whip my NaNo into something not sucky. The main flaw as it stands is that it's in first-person, and towards the end, the narrator stops narrating like himself and starts narrating like me. But thanks for the info.

*whistle* Too bad I'm not nearly that close to finishing. Maybe if I could spend all my time writing (I'd be in heaven?), but alas college has smothered a good deal of my free time. Curse you, stratigraphic successions!

Ew, HP? Not interested. ;)

I find it really bizarre that they're expecting people to get out a fully edited, novel-length story in less than five weeks.

My Creative Writing teacher wants the main characters, minor characters, plot outline, subplot outline, themes, sub-themes, and tertiary-themes of a novel that stands as a quintessential depiction of my generation in two days. So unfortunately I'm not too shocked. *waves fist*

Hells Bells, I can't even complete the fanfiction I started nearly a year ago. I tip my hat to you, sir.

I would be very interested in this offer... if I had a novel. Sadly, as of date, I do not, and therefore, no publication for me. Lament, lament....

Just out of curiousity... to all the people who claim to have written novels, what genre are they under and how long are they?

Mine is fantasy/fiction. Set in a medieval type setting, with Welsh influence. Current word count is 171000, or thereabouts.

In the process of writing. Pretty much humor/fantasy. It makes fun of itself and the fantasy genre a lot, but does have some more serious underlying themes. Not more than 100 pages actually written down yet, but a lot of mapping and outlining is done, and pretty much the whole thing is up here. *points to my brain* It's pretty much a literary festival of silly. ^^

I have two going. One is about evil talking rats...and one is about an evil sorcerer, elves, and a dragon.

Mine is technically fantasy but that's really a small part of the actual story; it focuses more on philosophy.

By the way, my elves are evil...

I successfully and correctly predicted the kind of novel each person was writing. Go me! :D

Same goes for me, but I'm just starting it.:(
Of course I have to realize they probably wouldn't take me seriously.(I'm short:( )

Indeed I am. I simply applied what I knew about each person's character and used that to insinuate what they would enjoy writing about. You, for instance, have always struck me as the type who likes fantasy as seen in your devoiton to Brian Jaques (and I believe you said once you liked Eragon. Correct me if I'm wrong on that.) Goddess I suspected would also go for fantasy, but given a love of Monty Python and other comedy, I suspected it would have some kind of humour base. Fuzface constantly expresses her dislike for the norm of writing, so it was assumed she would write something where the main characters were either bad, or an archtype commonly seen as good would be switched. Arrowtail, I confess, was a lucky guess.

Oh, I lied about being 100% correct, though. I'll confess that Ember stumped me. :)

How do you know I wasn't lying?

That's pretty much it. You got it!

But yeah, I'm just enigmatic like that. :D

I'm writing a novel also, but didn't figure it was worth posting about because it's not mostly finished. But now I'm curious; can Badrang guess what it's about? ;)

Hint: not dinosaurs.

Hint: not dinosaurs.

Dang... so much for my initial prediction...

Alright... I'm guessing... sci fi, maybe with a potential leaning towards the concept of evolution? (Got to be honest, with the dinosaur option gone, I'm kind of at a loss...)

Not so much evolution-related, but definitely sci-fi. You're good.

Aww, I thought this was going to be a Rickroll!

Okay, now, it's time to write a novel in under a month!

I have no ideas... by brain feels warped... ah ha! Time traveling Monkeys who have come back in time to destroy the humans because we made them evolve from their original species like retards through genetic mulnipulation!

Wait... that's taken... I've got it again! Anthro animals who are set in mid-evil times where the men and women (animals) are completely equal and they are seperated into TWO distinct groups....Goodbeasts and vermin. The GOODBEASTS are super awesome and don't require any previous training to kill the Vermin, who are mean, vicious and evil, but well seasoned in the arts of war (even though none of them could kill the cook at this reinforced fortress that's all peaceful, if they wanted to!)

Ah ha! I will win!

Wait... a moment...

....

okay another moment...

....

keep waiting...
