I'm not that far in yet, only in chapter five on page 81 i think. One thing i want to comment on is how angry harry seems to be so far and overdramatising everything. Geish
But this book has kept me intrested so far, usually the action is reserved for the end of the book i thought. Finding out that mrs. figg is a squib and two dementors chasing after him. I hope duddly is the one in the book that dies. God i hate him. Well thats all i have to say for now.

Yeah, i agree with you it would be good if Dudley died, but Im betting that he doesnt. It wouldnt be the same in the next books if he wasnt there... just Harry, aunt petunia and uncle vernon.

I highly doubt Dudley will be the one to go. J.K.Rowling said she cried after she killed whoever off. Would she cry if she killed Dudley? And I also agree about Harry's attitude. He's very cocky and it's very annoying. One other comment I would like to make is how unorganized the Order is. I'm really concerned as to how helpful they will be. No one seems to like anyone, so memebers can't do much to help, and one of their main priorities is to clean the headquarters? And also, Cornelius Fudge is stupid. He's in denial only because he's afraid Dumbledore is trying to cause trouble take away his power. Jerk. Anyway, so far it's really good in my opinion. I'm reading it slowly to savor it.:D

My mom has been pecking at me all yesterday and today that i need to savor the book and not rush through it. But i can't help it! I need to find out what happens next or it drives me nuts, seriously. I usually read a book in one to two days and then reread it more slowly so that it takes me two weeks. I think i might get done with this book actually if i keep reading, only 300 pages left to go. *pant* Is it in chapters 1-5 that moody shows harry a picture of the original order of the pheonix that was fighting against lord voldermort. Anyway i found it interesting that harry's parents where in it. So thats probably why voldemort killed them but theres go to be more than that me thinks to it.

Not being a huge Potter fan, I think the book's begining catches the reader's attention. I also agree about Harry's attitude. I'm not the first person whose said that! He he. I enjoyed finding out Mrs. Figg is a squib a lot.

Good grief, am I the only one on this message board who wasn't annoyed by Harry's attitude?!

Anyway, chapters 1 through 5... Good. The book starts off fast, but not too fast. Harry's such an angry child. I'm telling you people, it's hormones (and the fact that he has to live with people who hate him, and the fact that he watched some kid die last year, and the fact that they're ridiculing him and calling him insane in the papers, and the fact that his friends are being evasive, and the fact that there could be a war in the wizarding world for all he knows and he has no information, and the fact that Dumbledore is ignoring him, and the fact that he's been attacked by dementors, and nearly expelled from school, and the fact that the Dark Lord is hunting him down, this all being in the first five chapters)! :p

Yes. ;)

(well, no, there is Goozy, but she's never right so we'll ignore her. :D)

the fact that he has to live with people who hate him

Nothing new.

and the fact that he watched some kid die last year

It was only a month story-time.

the fact that they're ridiculing him and calling him insane in the papers

He was unaware of that so that can hardly be a deciding factor.

the fact that his friends are being evasive

That I'll concede, but only insofar as it should annoy him. It should not have made him happy they experienced pain as retribution.

the fact that there could be a war in the wizarding world for all he knows and he has no information, and the fact that Dumbledore is ignoring him, and the fact that he's been attacked by dementors, and nearly expelled from school, and the fact that the Dark Lord is hunting him down

That would create stress, make him irritable, but not a jerk. That's what we're saying-- not that he shouldn't snap at all, just that Rowling took it one step too far.

Sorry, I meant school year, should've been more clear.

See, the step makes all the difference! :p You guys think she took it a step too far... I think the step came very close, but was not too far. Stupid step... :p

I wasn't really annoyed by harry's behavior to be honest. To me, it was much more believable and understandable than Tagg being brought up by vermin and not having a trace of vermin-like behavior in him.
He didn't really come off as a jerk to me. Irritable, yes very irritable, but not a complete jerk (althought it was kind close). He cooled off once he got to hogwarts.
Lets face it, if Harry acted about the same as he did every other year, everyone would still be complaining.;) ("Unrealistic!" "Doesn't show any emotion to what happened the previous year!" .....and it would go on and on.)

You've got a Cardcaptors avatar, you don't count either! ;)

And Glenner uses the hypothetical "People would still complain" excuse, so neither does she! Airemia stands alone! ;)

Harry wasn't annoying to me....I thought about it and I would probably act like him as many other people would. So Airemia your not alone ;) even if Martin doesn't think so :p .

Haha, but you'll have to FIND The Academy of Doom first (which you won't)! It's in a very secret location. :p

:redsy *sniffs* "Why, is that burning Were-Red-Badger I smell?"

*has Martin double check himself to be sure it isn't REAL Red Badger burning*

Martin: "All clear."

Haha, but the Academy of Doom isn't in a frying pan! Besides the fact that it obviously wouldn't fit, DO YOU SERIOUSLY BELIEVE THAT I WOULD CHOOSE SUCH AN OBVIOUS PLACE TO HOUSE MY INSTITUTION?! THINK AGAIN! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

You've got a Cardcaptors avatar, you don't count either! ;) Don't you mean Card Captor Sakura? ;) Oh, and I changed my avatar, so I count now. ;)

I never really got annoyed with Harry, because he's a fictional character and I think that it's not worth going all emotional over fictional characters.
