A badger kidnapping, eh?
That's one point for me, if anyone's counting.Originally Posted by Badrang

Hmm interesting. This premise sounds like it could be just what the series needs at this point. I wonder what species Vizka is?

It shouldn't be a rat, but that's what it sounds like it is. **heavy sigh** They're both guys.

I don't see anything that designates the villain male.
My question is, who predicts it is the badger's destiny to be badger lord, and why?
Has the stronghold been without leadership for quite some time?

And for all intents and purposes, we still don't know for sure whether or not the hero is male. All we have is a name, which is by no means solid evidence.

I doubt that the predestined badger lord is the only hero of the book. It seems like often there's a Salamandastron-centered hero, and also one from Redwall (or elsewhere; see: Grath, Tammo, etc). Salamandastron, for instance, had three "main" heroes.
And what is there that makes it sound like the villain is almost definitely a rat? I hope it isn't a rat. I have nothing against them, but there's been a disproportionate amount of rat villains in the series. I want to see another weasel or pine marten, or maybe another unique species.
I doubt that there is much mystery behind the badger's predestination. It was probably, you know, written on the stone in the badger lords' chamber or something. "I have seen the writing on the wall."
That aside, I think the plot sounds like it could be interesting.

I counted four: Urthstripe, Samkim, Thrugg, and Mhera.
Interesting fact: Wildcats, who never really serve as the average hordebeast as the other vermin do, and who have always been considered very mysterious and rare, have had three appearances as main villians, whereas weasel's, essentially the Red-Ensign of hordes, have only had one major villian. The weasels have the rights to be the next villian. They've earned it.And what is there that makes it sound like the villain is almost definitely a rat? I hope it isn't a rat. agreed as well. Too many rats, not enough weasels. They have only had 2 stoat villains (main) as well, havent they?
What i think would be a cool change is to see one of the MAIN villains be a bird again. I found the ironbeak portion of MATTIMEO to be the most interesting segment of the novel.

At the Redwall Wiki, Ember has noticed that ''Eulalia!'' is categorized under "Foxes--Fiction" at the LoC. This makes it highly plausible that Captain Vizka is indeed a fox.
