    Mind over matter

Now I would like to ask you all...who do you think is the beast with the strongest mental power? Such as some people could say Feragho is a very high mentalled villain...or you could say the opposite.

I think slagar was probably the smartest villain. He was tricky and used his brai. In combat he might've not been the greatest, but in his mental power he was awesome.
    Spoiler!

The way I see it, most vermin warlords are put into strict categories: smart or strong. Vermin such as Slagar, Ferahgo, Mokkan, Ublaz, and such are schemers while others such as the obvious Gulo were powerful, but had little in the brains department. I'd have to probably add Urgan Nagru there too... Silvamord was the one who came up with most of the plans if I recall correctly.

I think the few exceptions I can think up of are Cluny, Tsarmina, Ungatt Trunn, and possibly Swartt... I remember him being a decent fighter.

I'd love to see more vermin warlords who are both strong and clever though.

(sweatdrop) That was way too close to a certain word... Don't you mean a bola?

I think I'd have to choose Ublaz, up until the point where he kinda... lost control....

Actually, he meant brain. The 'n' was left off.

As far as my own opinion, I think that Urgan Nagru would qualify as one of the smarter ones. Of all of them, Ublaz stands out in my mind for some reason—even though he was not particularly outstanding.

i, too, would probably choose Slagar or Urgan Nagru...

    Slagar:
    Spoiler!

now... Urgan Nagru on the other hand put fear into his own horde.

    Spoiler!

but overall i would probably say Slagar...

    Yes, meant brain not brai.

Another villain I think was smart was Feragho. He kept thinking up ideas that could've really worked well....
    Spoiler!

I'd say slagar was the craftious villain.
    but that's my opinion

Slagar was really smart and VERY crafty... he had all different plans and good ways to hide their trail(s) =

so i agree with your opinion...

No vermin leader really stands out to me. Though I suppose the smartest leader would more than likely be a fox.

Ublaz, I've always believed, is not very cunning at all. Often, he out thinks himself, and many of his plans fall apart because he makes them too complex. Not exactly an ideal planner.

Urgan Nagru, I find, is incredibly under rated. He had a brilliant tactical mind, and could pull of a plot better then most. I don't know why he's not more popular.

My choice for brains remains Badrang. It's nigh on impossible to pull a fast one one him, and he always reacts to a problem with speed and efficiency. Again, terribly underrated.

Actually, I thought badrang was a good villain, but not even close to the best. He wasn't that great a fighter and I only think he was good because he was a fast reactor...I didn't see that many smart ideas come out of him besides:
    Spoiler!

Badrang has several moments displaying his genius.

-He foresaw obvious treachery with Clogg
-Warded off the corsair's surprise attack with great efficiency and speed
-Knew when to negotiate rather than refusing to compromise
-Saw through the facade of the troupe presentation, and only failed to recapture his slaves due to unfortunate collision with the corsairs
-Upon discovering of Brome's escape plan, he does not waste time, takes personal leadership to hunt them down, and detaches Hisk to find the camp rather than wasting time wandering about with his whole fort
-Retakes Marshank bloodlessly via the tunnel
-Plots a trap so that the believed attackers would be ambushed at the gates
-Conducts a marvelous defensive battle despite the unexpected appearance of Martin's army.

Again, incredibly intellegent, and painfully underrated.

Hmmm I guess now that you say that...He was good but I still love Slagar. I bet slagar would've slaughtered Matthias if he hadn't waisted his only pair on hurling ball-weapons on:
    Spoiler!

slagar could never slaughter Matthias or any other redwall champion really.

slagar was smart but when it cam to fighting, i think he was a bit of a coward.

he wasn't that strong either... just smart and fast.
