    Name that Place/Item/Person

I’ll post a picture of a place/item/person/whatever from a videogame, whoever can identify what this thing is and what series it appears in, gets to post the next picture. If nobody comes up with the correct answer after three days, the poster gets a point and posts a different picture.

Here's an easy one to start out with:

(If you know the name of these person's and the game in which they appear, respond with the answer and a new pic)

    Let's GO!!!!

That's Mario riding on Yoshi, from Super Mario World, if I'm not mistaken. I don't care for platformers usually, but it was still pretty fun, from the little bit I played.

    Here's the next pic:

    GREAT !
    YOU FULFILED YOUR MISSION.
IT WILL REVIVE PEACE IN SPACE.
BUT,IT MAY BE INVADED BY THE OTHER METROID.

Isn't that Zeal Castle or whatever the name of the floating upper world is in "Chrono Trigger"? You get there from... er... whatever the ice age was with all the snow... wasn't that 1200 A.D.?

As for whether the game's fun, it depends on the challenge of the pictures. And if someone's going to post pictures from popular video games, it seems better to post zoomed-in pictures, viewpoints from odd places, or mundane areas that people would usually skip over. The people who really have a memory for these obscure places are likely to get the answers right. I saw this with Zelda: Ocarina of Time pictures in an issue of "Nintendo Power", where all the shots were a zoom-in on something. The photo itself gave absolutely no clue on where it came from unless you've personally seen the view it was taken from.

And I know the first picture in the post was supposed to be easy, but come on, who doesn't know both Mario and Yoshi? Some people may have trouble remembering the Yoshi Wings powerup, but they know the dino. Super Mario World's a good game, but better ones have been released since then... still, for straight Mario platformers, Super Mario World's one of the best. But then Super Mario All-Stars had to come around and challenge it with the three originals with updated graphics and sound... I'm not complaining, I'm just saying All-Stars was so beautiful with its visuals (especially the backgrounds) that I'm sure a zillion people snatched it up.

EDIT: Wait, not Zeal Castle, Zeal Palace! Think that's the name of it.

Alright, guess who this pair is (too bad there's a little blue tint to it):

I've seen this pair somewhere before, just can't put my finger on it. Possibly a Sega game?

Nope, Super NES game. Chose it precisely because it's obscure (maybe he falls under the same category of failed animal heroes like Aero the Acrobat, Awesome Possum, Bubsy Bobcat, and Gex the Gecko). I think the more challenging thing is to name what creature the big guy is and what creature the little blue guy is (or supposed to be).

Oh, sorry. Guess that teaches me not to listen to IGN articles that make "ten worst" lists. They did give the Gex games good scores, so it's puzzling why Gex would be on their failed mascot list (maybe it's just been too long since the last game). If nothing else, Gex was a great-looking character.

Anyway, no one was able to guess. It's Ardy Lightfoot (a meerkat) with his pal Pec (a penguin... supposed to be, anyway), from the SNES game "Ardy Lightfoot".

This should be a much easier picture. Name the place being shown (and game too if you want).

Right character and series, but wrong game. Keep trying! And I think the place is recognizable enough to people who played it. Sure it's a shot from a beta of the game, but you can still see this area in the final version.

I'm gonna pass the baton on this one, since the only two Star Fox games I can name are Assault and 64.
