I always end up recommending The Things They Carried, by Tim O'brien but I feel like everyone who has taken a college lit class has come in contact with it.

But one book I loved recently was It Happened One Morning, which is a collection of Dylan Thomas' prose work, along with several essays about Welsh poets and composition/poetry in general.

I also think everyone should read King Lear (it's my favorite Shakespeare), but most people already have.
